People rarely say it to your face. They say it behind your back instead.
He's saying he'll change. Let's see how many days he actually keeps it up. Can he really pull this off. I've heard versions of all of it over the past eight days, sometimes directly, sometimes through someone else repeating it back to me.
At first, it stung more than I expected. There's something about hearing doubt from people who know you that hits differently than doubt from strangers. On harder days, it even started to feel like their doubt, and I started questioning whether I could actually see this through.
But somewhere around day 8, something shifted in how I was thinking about it. I realized their words were never really about me. They were about their own fears, their own past attempts, their own reasons for not trying. None of that had anything to do with what I was capable of.
What people say about me shouldn't decide my life. My actions should. That's the line I keep coming back to whenever those comments start playing in my head again.
People can talk today, tomorrow, and probably for a while longer. I'd rather let my change do the talking instead, one honest day at a time.
