July 2026: What 524,370 Steps Taught Me About Losing Weight the Right Way

I began at 121 kg. I had no guide and no plan. I was just trying things here and there. I lost weight down to 116 kg this way, but I had no proof and no record. I had nothing to look back on. Then one day I got an idea. I thought, why not start a blog and track everything in public. That way I stay honest with myself. By the time I started this properly, I was at 116.6 kg, with a visceral fat score of 29.5, body fat at 36.7 percent, and a BMI of 39.4.

I did not go for a crash diet or a miracle pill. I chose to walk instead, every single day, one walk at a time. After three weeks of steady tracking, I dropped to 109.8 kg. That is 6.8 kg down. My visceral fat fell from 29.5 to 26.5, my body fat dropped to 35.9 percent, and my BMI came down to 37.1. The part I am most proud of is my muscle mass. It barely moved and stayed steady around 26 to 27. That mattered a lot to me, because losing fat while keeping my muscle was my real goal.

Then July came, and my Google Fit numbers made it all feel real. Over the whole month, I walked 524,370 steps. That comes to 346.37 kilometres, mostly walked early in the morning and again in the evening. Along with this, I earned 2,767 heart points. It never felt like 346 kilometres while I was doing it. It felt like two walks a day, most days, at a pace where I could still talk or listen to a podcast.

Visceral fat is the number I watch most closely now, even more than my weight. It is the fat around my organs, linked to heart disease and diabetes, and mine dropped by 3 points in three weeks. I tracked the simple numbers like steps, heart points, weight, and visceral fat, and they told me the truth about whether I was really doing the work. 346 kilometres down, a long way still to go, but for the first time in a long time, I am moving in the right direction.
